A complete guide to what you can and can't pack in your barrel — allowed items, prohibited dangerous goods, and Jamaica Customs restrictions. Know before you pack.
Almost anything that isn't dangerous or restricted. Here are the most common items our customers send home.
These items are banned by ZIM, IMDG maritime rules, and Jamaica Customs. Packing any of these can get your barrel seized and delay the whole container.
Import rules can change without notice, and Jamaica Customs and the Ministry of Agriculture — not ShipToJamaica.ca — make the final call at the port. Accepting your barrel for shipping does not guarantee any item will clear inspection.
Clothing, shoes, bedding, non-perishable food, canned goods, toiletries, small appliances, household items, toys, school supplies, and general merchandise. Almost anything not on the prohibited list is allowed.
Aerosols, batteries of any kind, flammable liquids, gas cylinders, paint, pesticides, fireworks, firearms, toy guns, fuel, bleach, camouflage clothing, drones (need a permit), prescription medications, adult material, counterfeit goods, alcohol, tobacco, cooking oil and edible oils, honey, lobster, conch, and US pork. Other meat, dairy, fish, fresh produce, and pet food need an import permit from Jamaica's Ministry of Agriculture.
Sealed, non-perishable food like canned goods, rice, flour, and seasonings is allowed but may attract customs duty. Cooking oil and other edible oils are the exception — they need a JACRA import permit and we do not accept them. Fresh meat, dairy, fish, and produce need an import permit from Jamaica's Ministry of Agriculture. Honey, lobster, conch, and US pork (except in sealed cans) are prohibited outright, with no permit route.
Camouflage clothing is reserved for the Jamaica Defence Force. It's illegal for civilians to wear or import, and will be seized by Jamaica Customs.
Clothing, shoes, household goods, toiletries, and sealed non-perishable food (canned goods, rice, flour, seasonings) are all fine to pack — but not cooking oil or any other edible oil. Fresh or raw meat, dairy, fish, and produce need a Ministry of Agriculture permit, and a handful of items — honey, lobster, conch, batteries of any kind, and more — are banned outright. Check the prohibited list above before you seal the barrel.
